Holy Communion - 10 February 2008 - MS Black Watch

Grace and peace to you in the Spirit of Christ,
who calls us to be the church and to celebrate God's presence.

Let us worship God.

HYMN: "Take up your cross," the Saviour said

Gracious God,
you are steadfast in your love and infinite in your mercy.
You welcome sinners and invite us to be your guests.
We confess our sins, trusting you for forgiveness.

We have yielded to temptation and sinned:
Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.

We have turned from our neighbours in their need.
Christ, have mercy.
Christ, have mercy

We have resisted your word in our hearts.
Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.

May God have mercy on us,
forgive us our sins
and keep us in life eternal.
Amen

Gracious God, through our observance of Lent,
help us to understand the meaning of that first Easter,
and write afresh in our hearts your infinite love for us.
In the name of Jesus we pray.
Amen

Reflection

HYMN: Oft in danger, oft in woe

Intercessions

Living God,
in this time of sacred quiet,
make us wise to believe that you, who created the universe
and still govern its destiny,
can create in us new hearts and guide our daily lives;

that you welcome not only our praise and thanksgiving,
but also our anger and our doubt, our passions and our brokenness.
Receive all our worship this day,
which we offer in the name of Christ.
Amen

May God be with us.
God is with us.
Let us open our hearts to God.
We open them to God and to one another.
Let us give thanks to God.
It is right to give God thanks and praise.

On the night before he died, Jesus took bread,
and after giving thanks to you, he broke it,
and gave it to those who sat with him, saying:

"Take, eat.
This is my body, given for you.
Do this in remembrance of me."

In the same way after supper, he took the cup, saying:
"This cup is the new covenant sealed in my blood,
shed for you for the forgiveness of sins.
Whenever you drink it,
do this in remembrance of me."

We remember Jesus' death.
We proclaim Christ risen.
We await the full revelation
of love incarnate.

Send, O God, your Holy Spirit upon us and upon these gifts,
that all who share in this bread and cup
may be the body of Christ -
light, life, and love in the world.

And in this hope, we praise you -

Through Christ, with Christ, and in Christ,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
all glory is yours, God most holy,
now and forever.

As Jesus taught us, let us pray together:

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name;
your kingdom come,
your will be done
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation,
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours,
now and for ever.
Amen

The bread that we break, and
the cup for which we give thanks
are our sharing in the life of Christ.

Come. All things are now ready.

Sharing the Bread and Wine

We give thanks, almighty God,
that you have refreshed us at your table
by granting us the presence of Christ.
Strengthen our faith, and
increase our passion to follow you.
Send us out into the world
united in courage and peace,
rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit.
We pray in Christ's name.

Amen.

HYMN: Spirit of God, O set us free

So may the love of God surround you,
the grace of Christ attend you,
and the Holy Spirit keep you,
now and for evermore.
Amen
