Holy Communion - 3 February 2008 - MS Black Watch

HYMN: Breathe on me, breath of God

Gather round, people of God.
Come and hear what God is saying.

Like disciples of old, we sit at the feet of Jesus.

Micah asked,

"With what shall I come before the Lord,
and bow myself before God on high?"

and the answer was clear:
God has told you, O mortal,
what is good;
and what does the Lord require of you, but

to do justice, and
to love kindness, and
to walk humbly with God.

Jesus put it in these words:
"Love God, and love your neighbour."
"In everything do to others as you would have them do to you.
This is the law and the prophets."

God, write your law of love in our hearts.

HYMN: Before we take the body of our Lord"

Reflection

Reflection

A New Creed:

We are not alone,
we live in God's world.

We believe in God:
who has created and is creating,
who has come in Jesus,
the Word made flesh,
to reconcile and make new,
who works in us and others
by the Spirit.

We trust in God.

We are called to be the Church:
to celebrate God's presence,

to live with respect in Creation,
to love and serve others,
to seek justice and resist evil,
to proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen,
our judge and our hope.

In life, in death, in life beyond death,
God is with us.

We are not alone.
Thanks be to God.

HYMN: God, give us peace that lasts

This is the table -
not ours but God's, not the Church's, but God's.
It is to be made ready for those who love God
and want to love God more.

So come. This table is open to all.

Come,
you with strong faith and
you whose faith is delicate;
you who come often to this table
and you who come seldom.
Come, not because I invite you,
but because Christ wishes to meet you here.

So now let us hear the story of this sacred meal.

On the night that Jesus was betrayed, he sat at supper with his disciples in an upper room.
While they were eating, he took a piece of bread,
gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying,

"This is my body.
It is broken for you.
Do this and remember me."

Later on he took a cup of wine, and gave it to them, saying,

"This cup is God's new covenant, sealed with my blood.
Drink from it, all of you, to remember me."

So now,
we take this bread and this wine,
ordinary things of the world which Christ will make special
and we remember - and we give thanks.

Praise be to God, the source of love.
Praise be to Christ, love incarnate.
Praise be to the Spirit, love's power.
Praise be to God!
Amen.

Send your Holy Spirit on this bread and this wine,
gifts of God for the people of God.

Come, for all things are now ready.

The Sharing of Bread & Wine

Life-giving God, we give you thanks
for the gift of your presence
in the simplicity and splendour of this holy meal.

Unite us with all who are fed by the life of Christ
that we may faithfully proclaim your love in an uncertain world;
in the name of Jesus we pray,
Amen

HYMN: Forth in your name, O Lord, we go

May God, who puts the Spirit within us,
and brings new life where hope is lost,
renew our spirits and confirm our faith,
and travel with us along life's journey:

and may the blessing of God
be with us and with those closest to us,
now and evermore.
Amen
